Also known as Orissa, magical Odisha is a small state in eastern India that bridges the coastline between Andhra Pradesh to the south and West Bengal to the north. From sandy beaches along the Bay of Bengal to unique beehive-shaped temples that attest to the region’s cultural history.

Backpacking Odisha is like an easy & fun task for me, since I hails from odisha therefore I know each and every details of it. But due to lack of sources given on internet, to visit odisha and know its rich culture, many Travelers ignored it. But not this time, read this post and you will be ready to backpack Odisha.

Reaching Bhubaneswar, The Capital of Odisha

Bhubaneswar is well-connected to major cities of India by Air, Rail and Roads.

BY AIR-
Biju Patnaik International Airport, is small, but looks new and well maintained. It is well connected with major cities of India. Direct flights are available from Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and, to a lesser extent, Bangalore. International flights are available from Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok with Air Asia.

BY RAIL –

Bhubaneswar is the headquarters of East Coast division of Indian Railways. It is situated on the main line from Kolkata to Chennai and is well connected to most major Indian cities.

BY ROAD –

Bhubaneshwar is on the National Highway no.5 that runs between Kolkata and Chennai. It is 480 km from Kolkata, 445 km from Visakhapatnam, 1225 km from Chennai, 32 km from Cuttack, 130 km from Chilika Lake (Barkul), 184 km from Gopalpur-on-sea, 64 km from Konark, and 62 km from Puri.

Getting Around In Bhubaneswar

Once you Reach here, you have plenty of option to stay from Budget hotel starting from ₹250/- to luxury hotel around ₹10,000/- per day. You could book online or can negotiates with them to lower the price.

(NOTE: There is no dorms or hostels around, since many travelers ditch this place because of less knowledge around this place.)

You Need Almost 2 days to visit Bhubaneswar. So Lets Begins….

DAY 1,

On your first day, heads towards Lingaraj Temple, considered to be the most ancient and the largest of all the temples in Bhubaneswar. There are plenty of buses both public and private are available in the city which run on the highways. Or you could avail online transport like Ola Or Uber.

Open throughout the week: 5 AM to 9 PM.

After Visiting Heads towards your next point i.e Dhauli Giri which is approximately 8 km from Lingaraj temple.
The Dhauli Shanti Stupa or the Peace Pagoda as it is known was built by the Japan Buddha Sangha and the Kalinga Nippon Buddha Sangha in 1972. Built on the site where the famous Kalinga War was fought.
You Can go in the evening to enjoy the light & Sound Show.

Timing: Entry Fee:

  • 1st Show – 6:30 pm to 6:50 pm ₹25 per person
  • 2nd Show – 7:10 pm to 7:30 pm

After visiting this two Places, have a good lunch at nearby restaurant and take a rest.

On the Second half of the Day, you can visit Khandagiri and Udayagiri Hills, built around 400Bc, good place to spend evening time. A lots of tourists comes during sunset, is the best time for visiting.

Take a dinner and have rest for the next day….

DAY 2,

Today take a tour to Nandankanan Zoological Park, It houses White Tiger Safari, Lion Safari, Butterfly Park, Orchid house. It houses only White tiger in India.

Opens: 7:30 AM to 5:30PM , except Monday….

Thats all you see in bhubaneswar, now you can heads toward Puri or Stay over night.

DAY 3,

Early Morning checkout from Bhubaneswar and go Puri. It takes 90mins by bus from burmunda bus stand, bhubaneswar to puri and takes around ₹100. After you Reach check-in to the hotel, keep your Bag aside take your Sunglasses and jump into the beach have a chill time and after enjoying.

Now get to the world famous Temple of Lord Jagannath. It opens around 5:00Am to 8:00Pm. It takes around 2 hours to visit the inside sactrum properly.

Next go to Gundicha Mandir, 1km walk on straight Road. There it takes 30mins.

(Note: Don’t pay money to any person, prists continuously chase visitors to show the statue and take the money in the name of god, except the entry fees.)

In the Evening, flock into the flea market on the beach, and take a crispy taste of seaside fish and chill in the beach.

DAY 4,

Next Morning, Get a day tour to Konark Sun Temple. It Takes around 60mins to konark from puri.

After Comming exhausted from konark take a peacefull sleep to energized your body for the next day.

DAY 5,

On the next very morning, take your duffle bag and head towards chilika, which is 113km. There are many private and govt. buses tours which take you to and fro at a very flexible price. After visiting the dolphins and more head back to puri and then from puri to bhubaneswar. and there you complte your Trip to Odisha. Hope you like it, Do comment to know more about.
